MASTER CLASS: The Art of Comedy

MASTER CLASS: THE ART OF COMEDY

What makes people laugh? What is a joke? A bit? A routine? How important are non-verbal signals? What makes the great stand-ups stand out?

These questions and more will be explored in this three-hour Master Class on the Art of Comedy. The emphasis and focus will be on Stand-Up Comedy, but Improvisational Comedy will also be addressed.

The class will be led by three veteran comics from Chicago:

Jimmy Mc Hugh - Jimmy has been dishing out his style of comedy for over 25 years. Born and raised on the Northwest side of Chicago, Jimmy blends a mixture of classic observational humor emphasized with his unique vocal and facial expressions.Taking his swings at the world of sports, Ernie Tucker of the Chicago Sun Times wrote, “Jimmy McHugh delivers some of the funniest sports material I have ever heard.”Jimmy makes appearances at comedy clubs in Chicago and nationwide. He has also been seen on Comedy Central, HBO, MTV, ESPN2 and the Oprah Winfrey Show.

Dobie Maxwell - Dobie, a.k.a. “Mr. Lucky” has been touring North America as a professional standup comedian since 1985. Dobie has performed with Drew Carey, SNL’s Dana Carvey, Jeff Foxworthy, Rosie O’Donnell, Jerry Seinfeld, Jay Leno and many others. His energy on stage and ability to vanquish hecklers are legendary. He has long been a “comic’s comic”, but he has finally realized that it’s CUSTOMERS that pay cash for tickets, not other comics. He has spent time as a morning radio host, co-host and regular guest on stations in Chicago, Reno, Milwaukee, Lansing, Tucson, Salt Lake City and has been a featured guest on radio stations and in printed publications worldwide.

Bill Gorgo - Bill's career in entertainment has been a regular buffet. While performing standup remains his first love, he has written 3 plays and a television series, acted in half a dozen stage productions, is an award winning storyteller, has been active in talk radio, and conducted classes in the art of comedy. No wonder he always seems tired.
